SO AND SUCH
- Such is a determiner; so is an adverb. They often have the same meaning of ‘very’ or ‘to this degree’:
I have such good friends.
My friends are so good.
- We use such + noun phrase and so + adjective or adverb phrase.
My mum is such a good cook. (Right)
My mum is so greatcook. (Wrong)
That was so kind. (Right)
That was such kind (Wrong)
Why do you drive so fast? (Right)

USE OF SO AND SUCH
► So + Adjective
- When we want to show extremes in exclamations, we can use "so" combined with adjectives.
The girl is so tall! Her head touches the ceiling when she is standing.
I was so surprised! I even thought I was in a dream for a moment.
- We use "that" in the sentence to show extremes with a certain result.
The weather is so cold that I can't even get out of the house.
The party was so crowded that we couldn't even move in the hall.
► So + Adverb
- We can also use "so" with adverbs to show extreme actions in exclamations.
The new player played so well! The audience clapped him at the end of the match.
Jane spoke so slowly! It took an hour to finish the seminar.
- When there is a certain result, we can use "that" in the sentence.
The president spoke so quickly that no one could understand him.
Our teacher danced so well that everybody gathered around him to watch closely.
► So + Many / Few + Plural Noun
- We can use "so" with "many" or "few" and a plural noun to show extremes in amount.
I couldn't imagine you would send so many flowers for my birthday.
There are so few books in your bookcase. Don't you like reading?
- We can use "that" in the sentence to show the results.
My brother has so many friends that he doesn't spend alone even a moment.
There are so few cafes in the city that we need to travel at least an hour to get to one.

- We can use "so" with "much" or "little" and a uncountable noun to show extremes in amount.
Pop stars earn so much money! Sometimes I wish I were a pop star.
There is so little milk left in the fridge. We need to get some when we go shopping.
- We can use "that" in the sentence to show the results.
- There was so much noise in the room that I had to leave.
- There is so little food in Africa that hundreds of people are dying of hunger each day.
► Such (a/n) + Adjective + Noun
- We can use "such" together with an adjective and a noun to show extremes.
Jane is driving such an expensive car!

OTHER USES OF SO AND SUCH
► Such and such
This is generally used to talk about e person who doesn't need to be specified.
People who work in such-and-such jobs tend to die early.
If you do such-and-such a job, you will earn a lot of money.
► "This type of" or "That type of"
Such can be used with the meaning of "this type of..." or "that type of..." in some sentences. Look at the examples below;
You shouldn't have made such mistakes in the first year of your marriage. (that type of mistakes)
I have never seen such homework before. (this type of homework)
