Types of Adverbs (Zarf Türleri)

► Adverbs of Manner (Hal Zarfları)

madly, suddenly, fannily, possibly, basically, daily, early, deliberately, naturally hard etc.

Examples:

- Your words are basically wrong. (Sözlerin temel olarak yanlış.)

- Suddenly he showed up. (Aniden ortaya çıktı.)

- She loves you madly. (O seni delice seviyor.)

- I can understand you perfectly. (Seni mükemmel bir şekilde anlayabiliyorum.)


► Adverbs of Place (Yer Zarfları)

Abroad, anywhere, somewhere, away, forwards, upstairs, here, left, north, south, west...etc.

Examples:

- Tomorrow, we are going to Marmaris. (Yarın, Marmaris'e gidiyoruz.)

- Businessmen have to travel abroad frequently. (İş adamlarının sık sık yurt dışına seyahat etmeleri gerekir.)

- I stay upstairs and my family lives downstairs. (Ben üst katta otururum, ailem alt katta yaşar.)

- East or West, home is the best. (Doğuda veya batıda en rahatı yuvamda.)


► Adverbs of Time (Zaman Zarfları)

Today, last week, ago, till, at last, another time, eventually, presently etc.

Examples:

- She doesn't go anywhere without her husband. (Kocası olmadan, o hiçbir yere gitmez.)

- At last everything was settled. (Sonunda her şey halledildi.)

- Today I feel great. (Bugün kendimi çok iyi hissediyorum.)

- Last week the weather was awfull. (Geçen hefta hava berbattı.)


► Adverbs of Frequency (Sıklık Zarfları)

once, always, frequently, rarely, never, at times, now and then, continually... etc.

Examples:

- I visit my father once a month. (Babamı ayda bir ziyaret ederim.)

- That magazine is only published annually. (O dergi sadece yılda bir yayımlanır.)

- I hardly ever go to the opera. (Operaya hiç gitmem.)

- I'll always love my mother. (Annemi daima seveceğim.)


► Adverbs of Degree (Derece Zarfları)

almost, barely, a bit, rather, somewhat, too, fairly, hardly... etc.

- It was too dark for us to find our way in the forest. (Ormanda yolumuzu bulmak için hava çok karanlıktı.)

- We couldn't go on a picnic since it began to rain really heavily. (Sağanak yağmur başladığı için pikniğe gidemedik.)

- Things happened really quickly. (Her şey gerçekten çok hızlı olup bitti.)

TYPES OF ADVERBS

 

► Adverb of time

It tells us when something is done or happens. We use it at the beginning or at the end of a sentence. We use it as a form of emphasis when we place it at the beginning. Some of them are below;

afterwards, already, always, immediately, last month, now, soon, then, yesterday, yet, today 

We had great fun at the party yesterday.
He moved to London three months ago.
I have already seen that movie.

 

► Adverb of place

It tells us where something is done or happens. We use it after the verb, direct object or at the end of a sentence. Some of them are below;

above, below, here, inside, outside, over there, under, below, upstairs

Could you please put the pen here?
Let's go outside and have dinner.
You go upstairs and do your homework. I’ll come up in a minute.

 

► Adverb of manner

It tells us how something is done or happens. Most adverbs of manner end in –ly and some of them are below;

accurately, slowly, badly, happily, sadly, quickly, well, hard, fast, greedily

I can't hear you. You should speak loudly.
We waited anxiously for the news.
We are in a library. So, you should speak quietly.

 

► Adverb of degree

It tells us the level or extent that something is done or happens. Some of them are below;

absolutely, almost, perfectly, much, nearly, quite, really, totally, so, too, very

It was too dark for us to find our way in the forest.
We couldn't go on a picnic since it began to rain really heavily.
Things happened really quickly.

 

► Adverb of frequency

It tells us how often something is done or happens. Some of them are below;

almost, always, ever, usually, once, frequently, generally, hardly ever, nearly, never, occasionally

We were almost late for the meeting.
He is not talkative. He hardly ever talks. 
We sometimes leave the office early and walk by the beach.
