Simple Past or Past Continuous?

 

1) A: you (work) last night?

2) No, From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jack and I (get) ready for a dinner party at home. It (be) awful.

3) Yesterday, Jack and I (decide) to buy a lobster for the dinner. We (cook) it, (make) a cake and (lay) the table. At 8:00 p.m. everything eee (be) ready. As we (relax), the lights (go) out. There (be) a blockout.

4) Our guests (arrive) a few minutes later. While I (talk) to them. Martha (look) for some candles but she (not/find) any candles.

5) Two hours later, the lights (come) back ond and we (decide) to serve dinner. We both (go) into the kitchen. Martha (prepare) the salad when I eee (discover) that the lobster (not/be) there. We (feel) very embarrassed because we (not/have) anything to serve our guests.
